The portrait
The King of Highbury
Deep red and historic white
Some players score goals. This one changed how a club saw itself. The arcing run from the left, the open body, the ball curled into the far corner before the keeper had finished setting his feet. He did it so often it became a signature.
This portrait catches the stillness before the storm: head turned, eyes fixed on something the rest of the stadium hasn't seen yet. Rendered in deep black on archival paper, the negative space does the talking.
From the artist
I combined a fascination with pointillism and negative space to create illustrations that could be hung proudly on any style-conscious wall. Limited edition art prints of your sporting idols at reasonable prices.
